An independent macOS project
Notedpad is an independent free software project built specifically for Mac. It is developed, branded, and released on its own — not as an official product of any other company or editor.
Notedpad is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to Notepad++, Nextpad++, Don Ho, notepad-plus-plus.org, or any other text or code editor. Similar names can be confusing; the app, website, and support channels for Notedpad are separate.
The goal is a clean, native Mac experience: open files quickly, edit with a familiar layout, and stay productive without leaving the Apple ecosystem.
What the app does
Notedpad is a native source code and text editor for macOS 11 and later. It helps you write and edit code, config files, notes, and plain text with a compact toolbar, a clear gutter, and tabs for multiple documents. Under the hood it uses the Scintilla editing engine with Objective-C++ and native macOS APIs.
Two editions are available:
- Classic — compact navy chrome that stays consistent across macOS versions.
- System Theme — follows your Mac’s appearance; on macOS 26 it can use Tahoe-style chrome. The Dock icon follows Light and Dark.
